FUEL CELL TECHNOLOGIES

ARC Technologies Corporation business goal is:

  • To develop new fuel processing technologies for using alternative and renewable fuels – landfill gas (LFG) and anaerobic digester gas (ADG) - in solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC) power generation systems.
  • To develop a modular Fuel Processor with integral reformer and CO clean up system for low temperature stationary fuel cells (PEMFC) running on pure hydrogen.
  • To conduct integrated fuel processor-SOFC system tests to evaluate the performance of the Fuel Processors and overall systems.

Testing will provide valuable operational experience with high performance SOFC cells on biogas, and provide new and novel contaminant removal materials and processes of interest to operators of large landfill and digester plant.

Recognizing that SOFC technology is the leading choice for stationary power applications, in 2010 ARC Technologies Corporation acquired most of the SOFC assets from Siemens Energy including a completely refurbished CHP125 kWe SOFC, replacement stack, associated BOP and various single-cell test stands. This acquisition has provided the capability to run testing and demonstration of fuel processors and high temperature stationary fuel cells systems in-house.

The development of this technology will significantly advance the nation's energy security and independence interests while simultaneously addressing environmental concerns, including greenhouse gas emissions of methane and carbon dioxide from landfills.
